In the centenary year of the armistice that ended the First World War, we present music of remembrance and homecoming in a concert that also highlights the art of the choral arranger.
Works with direct connections to the Great War by Rachmaninov and Douglas Guest are joined by reflections on loss by Francis Poulenc and Judith Bingham. We remember Claude Debussy, too, in the centenary of his death.
Our programme also celebrates innocence and serenity, in soaring choral arrangements of some of the loveliest songs and orchestral melodies of Dvorak, Elgar, Mahler and Ravel.
Our concert takes place in the beautiful 18th-century surroundings of St George’s Church, Hanover Square. Several works on the programme feature on Pegasus’s new CD, For the Fallen: Music from the Time of the Great War, which will be available for purchase after the concert.
Tickets (unreserved seating) are free and available via Eventbrite. There will be a retiring collection to help defray the costs of the concert.
